Sidney Garrison’s light-hearted, humorous, and romantic coming-of-age story continues in the second book, In Between Loving You, as she continues to navigate the ups and downs of teenage life in the 1970s.
In book two of The Sidney Series, the adventures continue for Sidney Garrison, her brother, Max, and all the “crew.” Sidney finds herself torn between simply loving her classmate, Mickey Curtis, or breaking free and seeing what life has to offer.
Sidney discovers being single and free definitely has its perks…meeting those fine Wellington boys, dancing the night away at that fabulous disco in Tennessee, and cruisin’ the streets of her beloved Mayfair are just a few. However, not being in Mickey’s life and seeing him saddled up in the arms of another girl is a hard pill for Sidney to swallow. Will she choose freedom…or will she ultimately choose love?
The story takes place in 1979 and is told with all the nostalgia of the 1970s…disco and outlaw music, muscle cars, county fair, and teenagers loving and living life in rural western Kentucky are all abound in this humorous, coming-of-age, fictional account of Sidney Garrison’s life.
From the book…
I walked in, used the restroom, and stood there in front of the mirror rearranging the scarf on my head. About the time I had tied a knot in the scarf, I heard footsteps by the door. I turned and saw Mickey leaning against the door. I just stood there by the mirror, froze in my tracks. What was he doing down here? All alone…with me.
About the time I was pondering these thoughts, Mickey Curtis spoke up. “The guys’ bathroom was full, so I took a chance that no one was down here, but I should have known, great minds think alike,” Mickey giggled with that laugh I absolutely adored. I knew I would never tire of hearing his laugh, as long as I lived.
“Yeah, the girls’ bathroom was crowded, so I made my way down here. I’m not gonna lie, I was a bit freaked out. It’s dark as hell!” I laughed and said. This was a moment. This was the first time we’d been alone since the midnight swim at Tanna’s house. Mickey’s clown make-up was smeared and I felt compelled to fix it. “Come here, your make-up is all smeared,” I giggled. I could still feel the effects of the vodka shots as I said it.
Mickey slowly sauntered over by the sink and stood in front of me. I proceeded to wet a paper towel. “Hold still.” I stood in front of him and began wiping the red smears off his face where lipstick had been. At that moment, I knew this was a mistake. The vodka was still in my system, and I felt like I had no control. I didn’t care if he took all my clothes off, right here, right now. Standing in front of him, three inches from his face, touching his skin gently with my fingers, was almost unbearable. It shouldn’t have been intimate, standing in a musty, old elementary bathroom, but it was. It was one of the most intimate, sensual moments I’ve ever experienced. Mickey knew it, too. Oh, how he knew it, and I was almost certain, he’d had a little alcohol before he showed up tonight, as well. As I raised my hand to wipe another smear off of his face, he grabbed my hand and pulled me into his arms. He began kissing me like his life depended on it, like he wouldn’t be able to breathe another breath unless he had me…
